Title 51 › Subtitle Subtitle II— General Program and Policy Provisions › Chapter 201— NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE PROGRAM › Subchapter III— GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS › § 20140

Summary

Money may be provided as needed to carry out this chapter, but those funds cannot be used to buy or seize land or to pay for any single capital item (like buying or expanding a plant or facility) that costs more than $250,000. Money given for building projects or for research and development stays available until it is all spent. Funds meant for new construction can instead be used for emergency repairs to existing facilities if a major breakdown, accident, or other event makes them inoperative and the Administrator says repairs are more urgent. Unless an earlier date is set, the authority to provide these funds ends at the close of the third fiscal year after the fiscal year in which the authorization was enacted, but only for amounts that have not actually been provided by then.

(c)Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the authorization of any appropriation to the Administration shall expire (unless an earlier expiration is specifically provided) at the close of the third fiscal year following the fiscal year in which the authorization was enacted, to the extent that such appropriation has not theretofore actually been made.
