The National Academy of Sciences must review every division in the Administration’s Science directorate every 5 years. Starting in the first fiscal year after December 30, 2005, the Administrator must pick at least one division and make sure all disciplines get their first review within 6 fiscal years of that date. By March 1 each year beginning then, the Administrator must send the House Committee on Science and Technology and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation a report that gives the external review results, actions taken in response, and summaries of findings and recommendations from other relevant external reviews.
