§40306 Space Grant College and Space Grant Regional Consortium

Summary

Gives the Administrator the power to name colleges and groups to the Space Grant program. A space grant college is a college or university the Administrator names. A space grant regional consortium is a group or alliance made up of two or more organizations (not individual people) the Administrator names. To be named, a college must keep a balanced mix of research, teaching, training, and advising in space-related fields, follow guidelines set under subsection (b)(2), and meet any other qualifications the Administrator requires. A consortium must be organized to share expertise, research, facilities, and training; use a regional approach and work with local colleges and programs; follow the same guidelines; and meet other required qualifications. The Administrator must make rules that explain what the extra qualifications are and set guidelines for what colleges and consortia must do. The Administrator may suspend or end any designation for cause, but only after giving the group a chance for a hearing.
