The Administrator and the Secretary of Defense must continue and improve remote sensing research and development programs. The Administrator can run experimental space remote sensing projects (including university research and demonstrations), create technologies and methods for watching the Earth and its environment, and work with other government units and public or private groups (including joint ventures) at home and abroad. The Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior can use their appropriated funds for remote sensing research to help manage renewable and nonrenewable resources. Their work can include university research, application demonstrations, and cooperation with other governments, agencies, and private groups. Other federal agencies can also use their funds to do remote sensing research tied to their missions.
