Summary

The parts of the International Space Station that were built by the United States, or built for the United States by other countries in exchange for money or launch services, are officially called a national laboratory. NASA must try to get more use of that U.S. lab by other federal agencies and private companies through partnerships, cost-sharing, and similar arrangements. NASA may hire a non‑government group to run the national laboratory, following federal rules.
