§100505 Periodic Review of System

Summary

The Secretary must do a thorough review of the System at least once every 3 years and send a report on the results and any needed recommendations to the House Committee on Natural Resources, the House Committee on Appropriations, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Senate Committee on Appropriations. The Secretary must work with relevant federal, state, and local agencies and with national, regional, and local organizations, and must hold public hearings when appropriate so people can comment. The report must include: a full list of all authorized but not yet acquired land parcels inside each System unit as of November 28, 1990; a priority list of those parcels by unit and for the whole System that shows acreage, ownership, an estimated acquisition cost for each parcel (subject to any legal limits on buying the land), and the reason for each cost estimate; and an analysis of current and future needs for resource management, interpretation, construction, operation and maintenance, staff, and housing, with cost estimates.
