Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle I— National Park System › Chapter 1013— EMPLOYEES › Subchapter I— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 101304
The Secretary can buy personal gear and supplies for Service employees and take the cost out of their pay or other money owed. The Secretary can also pay back employees or owners if horses, vehicles, or other equipment are lost, damaged, or destroyed while the Department is using them for firefighting, trail work, or other official duties. Payment comes from the fund that would cover renting the equipment. Field employees may be required to provide horses, vehicles, and other needed gear. The government will pay for animal feed, care, and housing, and for storage or fuel for vehicles and equipment. The Secretary can also, under rules, hire, rent, or buy property from employees when it serves the public interest.
