The State Historic Preservation Officer must run the State Historic Preservation Program. They have 10 main duties. These include doing a statewide survey and keeping an inventory of historic places; nominating eligible places to the National Register; making and carrying out a statewide preservation plan; managing federal preservation funds in the State; advising federal, State, and local agencies; working with the Secretary, the Council, other agencies, local governments, and private groups so historic places are part of planning; giving public education, training, and technical help; helping local governments develop programs and get certified under chapter 3025; consulting on federal projects that might affect historic places and on plans to protect or reduce harm to them; and helping review rehab projects for possible federal aid.
