Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— National Preservation Programs › Chapter 3081— AMERICAN BATTLEFIELD PROTECTION PROGRAM › § 308105
The Secretary must create a battlefield restoration grant program that gives money to States, Tribes, local governments, and nonprofit groups to restore battlefields to how they looked on the day of battle. Grants can pay for work on land already protected under the battlefield acquisition program or on battlefield land owned by those groups and listed in the Battlefield Reports. Eligible sites include Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War battlefields. Federal funds can pay no more than 50% of a project’s cost. All work paid by grants must follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (36 CFR part 68 or its replacement). Congress authorized $1,000,000 for each fiscal year 2020 through 2028 for these grants.
