The Secretary can give grants to federal agencies, state, local, and Tribal governments, public bodies, schools and colleges, historic preservation groups, and private nonprofit organizations to find, protect and restore, explain, and research historic African‑American burial grounds. The law provides $3,000,000 for the Secretary to use each fiscal year from 2023 through 2027 for these grants. Any money not spent in a year can be used in later years.
