Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— National Preservation Programs › Chapter 3111— PRESERVE AMERICA PROGRAM › § 311103
To apply for Preserve America Community status, a community, tribal area, or neighborhood must send the Council an application with whatever information the Council asks for. The Chairman of the Council, after consulting with the Secretary, will set the rules and decide if an applicant meets them. Applicants must show they protect and celebrate local heritage, use historic places to help the local economy and revitalize areas, and encourage people to learn about and visit those historic resources through education and heritage tourism. The Council must also create a faster application process for local governments already certified under section 302502, and the Chairman, with the Secretary, will write any guidelines needed to run the program.
