Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— National Preservation Programs › Chapter 3125— PRESERVATION OF HISTORICAL AND ARCHEOLOGICAL DATA › § 312504
The Secretary must keep the agency that funds or licenses a project up to date about any survey and any work done because of that survey so the agency’s work is not delayed. Survey and recovery work stops when the Secretary and the agency head agree, unless they both agree to continue. The Secretary must talk with interested federal and state agencies, schools and science groups, private institutions, and qualified experts to decide who owns recovered items and where they should be kept. The Secretary also must coordinate all federal survey and recovery activities under this law.
