Summary

The Administrator must create and start a preventive maintenance validation process for security technology used at airports within 180 days after October 5, 2018. If airport staff do the maintenance, the process must give clear guidance on how to do and record preventive work and include ways for the Administrator to check that the guidance was followed. If contractors do the work, the process must require monthly maintenance schedules, notices to airport staff when actions are finished, and independent third‑party checks. Contracts entered into 60 days after October 5, 2018 or later must include penalties if required preventive or corrective maintenance is not done according to the contract and manufacturers’ specifications.
