The Secretary of Homeland Security must send a report to the Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate within 180 days after December 23, 2022, and every year after that. The report must explain DHS activities, policies, and plans from the past year to improve security for early childhood education programs, elementary schools, and secondary schools, including work done through the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse. It must also describe how DHS parts coordinate those efforts (which parts are involved and which leads) and explain the steps taken to protect privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties. Within 30 days after each report is sent, the Secretary must give those two committees a briefing on the report and the status of the plans. The terms early childhood education program, elementary school, and secondary school use the meanings in title 20, section 7801.
