§727 Improvements to Information Technology Systems

Summary

The Administrator, working with the Department’s Chief Information Officer, must update and improve the Agency’s information technology systems. They must make the Agency’s different systems—including the National Emergency Management Information System, the Logistics Information Management System III, and the Automated Deployment Database—as compatible as possible so they can share and access data. Upgrades must reach headquarters and regional offices quickly. The Agency must keep a testing setup to fully test components before release, be able to track disaster response personnel, mission assignments, task orders, commodities, and supplies, fix problems in the National Emergency Management Information System that existed on October 4, 2006, and provide training, manuals, and guidance to staff. No later than 270 days after October 4, 2006, the Administrator must send a report to the appropriate Congressional committees describing what was done, remaining problems, and any extra funding needed.
