Title 7 › Chapter 35— AGRICULTURAL ADJUSTMENT ACT OF 1938 › § 1282a
Require the Agriculture Secretary to help farmers, processors, and distributors get prices that keep a stable, sufficient supply of farm products for consumers. If the Secretary tells the President that a price control or freeze (including Executive Order 11723 of June 13, 1973, or later orders) will cut supply to unacceptably low levels and no other way can raise supply, the President must adjust the maximum price anywhere in the supply chain. Agricultural products include meat, poultry, vegetables, fruits and other farm commodities, raw or processed, but not forestry or fish. The Secretary must also run policies that encourage farmers to produce at full capacity during shortages so consumers have enough food and fiber at fair prices.
