§136w–3 Identification of Pests; Cooperation with Department of Agriculture’s Program

Summary

The Administrator must work with the Secretary of Agriculture to decide which pests need to be controlled and to help improve safe, effective ways to fight them using chemicals, biological tools, or other methods. They must list what control methods are available by crop or animal, point out minor or local pest problems, and explain why some methods aren’t available (for example, resistance or regulations). The Secretary of Agriculture must send a report with that information to the Administrator no later than 180 days after November 28, 1990, and every year after that. The report must show where there are shortages of control methods and describe research and outreach planned to fix those shortages. The Administrator and the Secretary must also create integrated pest management approaches that meet producers’ needs, with extra focus on minor pests. For pests that affect public health, the Administrator must work with the Secretary of Agriculture, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and the Public Health Service to identify those pests and run programs to improve safe, necessary control methods.
