§1627a Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program

Summary

The Secretary of Agriculture, through the Agricultural Marketing Service, must set up a competitive grant program to strengthen U.S. sheep production and marketing. Grants can pay for things like better infrastructure, business and resource development, and new ideas to fix long-term needs. At least one grant must go to a national organization whose goals match the program. Money comes from the Commodity Credit Corporation: $2,000,000 for fiscal year 2019, $400,000 for fiscal year 2024, and $3,000,000 for fiscal year 2026, and the funds remain available until spent.

(a)The Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service, shall establish a competitive grant program for the purposes of strengthening and enhancing the production and marketing of sheep and sheep products in the United States, including through—
(1)the improvement of—
(A)infrastructure;
(B)business; and
(C)resource development; and
(2)the development of innovative approaches to solve long-term needs.
(b)The Secretary shall make grants under this section to at least one national entity, the mission of which is consistent with the purpose of the grant program.
(c)Of the funds of the Commodity Credit Corporation, the Secretary shall use to carry out this section $2,000,000 for fiscal year 2019, $400,000 for fiscal year 2024, and $3,000,000 for fiscal year 2026, to remain available until expended.
