Title 7 › Chapter 54— TRANSPORTATION, SALE, AND HANDLING OF CERTAIN ANIMALS › § 2140
Dealers and exhibitors must keep records about animals they buy, sell, move, identify, or who owned them before. The Secretary of Agriculture will tell how long to keep these records. Research facilities must keep the same kinds of records only for live dogs and cats. When federal agencies already use forms for intermediate handlers and carriers about moving and delivering animals, those forms must include any extra details the Secretary requires, and the handlers must fill them in and keep them for the time the Secretary sets. If no such federal forms exist, intermediate handlers and carriers must make and keep the records the Secretary requires. Those records must be available for the Secretary to inspect and copy at reasonable times.
