§2709 Termination or Suspension of Orders

Summary

The Secretary must stop or pause any order under this law if the order gets in the way of or does not help carry out the law’s goals. The Secretary can run a vote about ending or pausing an order at any time, and must do so if at least 10 percent of the egg producers who voted to approve the order ask for it. If a majority of the producers voting in that referendum — counting only those who were producing commercial eggs during a representative period set by the Secretary and who together produced more than 50 percent of the egg volume of the voters — vote to end or pause the order, the Secretary will suspend or end it six months after making that decision. Stopping or pausing an order is not treated as issuing a new order under this law.
