Title 7 › Chapter 66— AGRICULTURAL FOREIGN INVESTMENT DISCLOSURE › § 3508
Defines key words used in this chapter. "Agricultural land" is land in one or more States used for farming, forestry, or timber as the Secretary of Agriculture decides under regulations. "Foreign government" means any government besides the U.S. federal government or a State or local government. "Foreign person" covers four groups: certain non‑U.S. individuals (people who are not U.S. citizens or nationals, not citizens of the Northern Mariana Islands or the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, or not lawfully admitted for permanent residence or paroled under the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq.)); organizations formed under foreign law or based outside the States; organizations formed under State law but owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, by the foregoing or by foreign governments; and foreign governments. "Person" means any individual or legal entity (for example, corporation, partnership, trust, or estate). "Secretary" means the Secretary of Agriculture. "State" includes the several States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any other U.S. territory or possession.
