Title 7 › Chapter 79— PORK PROMOTION, RESEARCH, AND CONSUMER INFORMATION › § 4801
Creates a fee-funded program to promote pork, pay for research, and give consumers information so pork stays strong in the marketplace and so markets for pork can be kept, grown, and found. The fees (assessments) must cover the work, and the program cannot cost the Federal Government money. Congress says pork is a common, healthy food made by many producers, including small and medium farms, and eaten by millions every day. Pork is shipped between states and to other countries, and even pork that stays local can affect wider trade. Recently, cheaper imported pork has been replacing U.S. pork in normal markets. The program cannot force quality rules, control how much is produced, or stop any producer from making pork.
