Gives simple meanings for key words used in the chapter. Comprehensive plan means the required national nutrition plan. Coordinated program means the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Program. Interagency Board or Board means the federal group that coordinates those efforts. Joint Implementation Plan for a Comprehensive National Nutrition Monitoring System means the plan dated August 18, 1981 submitted by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services. Local government means a local general government unit or a local educational unit. National Nutrition Monitoring Advisory Council or Council means the advisory body. Nutrition monitoring and related research means activities that track how nutrition affects public health, including diet and health measurements, food intake and composition data, nutrient databases, surveys of knowledge and attitudes, and food supply/demand studies. Nutritional quality means correct nutrient levels and balances, how nutrients are absorbed and used, and the role of non‑nutrient parts of food like fiber and phytate. Secretaries means the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of Health and Human Services acting together.
