§6508 Prohibited Crop Production Practices and Materials

Summary

To be certified organic, farms must not treat seeds or seedlings with any banned or nonorganic materials or use planting methods that go against the organic certification program. Farms must not use fertilizers with synthetic ingredients or mixed fertilizers that include banned materials. They must not use phosphorus, lime, potash, or other non-approved things as a source of nitrogen. Farms must not use long-lasting poisons like arsenic or lead salts if officials say they persist in the environment, must remove plastic mulch after each season, and must not use transplants treated with synthetic or banned substances.
