Title 7 › Chapter 94— ORGANIC CERTIFICATION › § 6521
The Secretary must issue proposed rules to carry out the chapter within 540 days after November 28, 1990. The Secretary must help States set up organic certification programs by giving technical, administrative, and National Institute of Food and Agriculture support, and may give money to States that adopt such programs. The Secretary can use cross-border data from other federal agencies, including the Automated Commercial Environment system of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. By March 1, 2020, and each year through March 1, 2023, the Secretary must send Congress and post on the Department of Agriculture website a report on national organic program activities. The report must cover all domestic and overseas investigations and compliance actions from the prior year and must show data by agricultural product, quantity, value, and month. Confidential business information must be excluded.
