Title 7 › Chapter 26A— AGRICULTURAL MARKETING AGREEMENTS › § 671
The Secretary of Agriculture, or a person the Secretary names, can step in to help settle disputes about selling milk when a producer-owned cooperative asks in writing. If all sides agree, the Secretary must arbitrate when they think it will support the goals of the Agricultural Adjustment Act. The arbitration is limited to the kinds of issues that the Act’s milk orders cover. Meetings must follow rules the Secretary sets. Any settlement needs the Secretary’s approval and cannot allow illegal trade or unfair competition. Approved meetings and awards are not violations of antitrust laws.
