The Secretary must create a Rural Health Liaison position in the Department. That person has nine main jobs. They must work with the Health and Human Services Secretary on rural health. They must bring together the Department’s rural health planning and activities and improve communication inside the Department and with other federal agencies. They must speak up for health care and related infrastructure needs in rural areas. They must share data and program rules, availability, and results with partners, possible grant applicants, agencies, tribes, nonprofits, and schools. They must stay in touch with health, safety, telecom, and research groups; advise on programs, pilot projects, research, and training; help the Secretary in the Council on Rural Community Innovation and Economic Development; and give technical help to the Department’s outreach, extension, and county offices.
