§7103 Issuance and Amendment of Orders

Summary

The Secretary must create a single national order that applies to people and businesses involved with sheep and sheep products, such as producers, feeders, importers, handlers, and buyers. Only one such order can be in effect at a time. The Secretary can propose an order, or an association of producers can ask for one and submit a draft. Within 60 days after getting a request and draft, the Secretary must publish the proposed order and allow public comment. After considering comments, the Secretary must issue the final order within 180 days after the proposal was published. The order only takes effect if producers, feeders, and importers approve it in a referendum under section 7105. The Secretary may amend orders later.
