§7312 Composition

Summary

Create an 11-member commission. The President appoints 3 members. The House Agriculture Committee chair appoints 4 members after talking with the committee’s top minority member. The Senate Agriculture Committee chair appoints 4 members after talking with that committee’s top minority member. At least one appointee from each of those three groups must be mainly involved in farming. The other members must have experience in farm production, marketing, finance, or trade. Members serve for the life of the commission. If a seat opens, it is filled the same way it was first filled and the commission keeps working. All members must be appointed by October 1, 1997. The commission must hold its first meeting 30 days after 6 members have been named. The House and Senate Agriculture Committee chairs pick the chairperson together from among the members.
