Defines the key words used for the kiwifruit research, promotion, and consumer information program. Board is the National Kiwifruit Board. Consumer information covers actions to teach the public about eating, using, nutrition, and care of kiwifruit. Exporter is a person outside the United States who sends kiwifruit into the United States. Handler is anyone (not a common carrier) who buys, sells, packs, markets, or distributes kiwifruit as the order says. Importer is a person who brings kiwifruit into the United States. Kiwifruit means all fresh varieties grown in or brought into the United States. Marketing means selling or otherwise putting kiwifruit into commerce across state lines, into foreign trade, or within a state. Order is the Secretary’s kiwifruit research, promotion, and consumer information order. Person means an individual, group, business, cooperative, or other legal entity. Processing means changing the fruit’s form (for example, canning, fermenting, distilling, extracting, preserving, grinding, or crushing) to prepare it for market. Producer is someone who grows kiwifruit in the United States to sell. Promotion covers actions, including paid ads, to present kiwifruit favorably and boost sales. Research means studies about use, nutrition, or marketing to improve kiwifruit’s image or quality. Secretary means the Secretary of Agriculture. United States means the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
