§7462 Definitions

Summary

Defines key words used for the national kiwifruit program. Board means the National Kiwifruit Board. Consumer information means actions to teach the public about eating, using, nutrition, and care of kiwifruit. Exporter means a person outside the United States who sends kiwifruit into the United States. Handler means a person (not a common carrier) who buys, sells, packs, markets, or distributes kiwifruit as the order says. Importer means a person who brings kiwifruit into the United States. Kiwifruit means all varieties of fresh kiwifruit grown in or brought into the United States. Marketing means selling or otherwise placing kiwifruit into interstate, foreign, or intrastate commerce. Order means a kiwifruit research, promotion, and consumer information order issued by the Secretary. Person means any individual, partnership, corporation, cooperative, or other legal entity. Processing means changing the form of kiwifruit for market (for example canning or preserving). Producer means someone who grows kiwifruit in the United States to sell. Promotion means actions, including paid ads, to improve kiwifruit’s image and sales. Research means studies about use, nutrition, and marketing to improve kiwifruit. Secretary means the Secretary of Agriculture. United States means the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
