§7503 State Plan

Title 7 › Chapter 102— EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE › § 7503

Last updated Apr 3, 2026|Official source

Summary

A State that wants to get commodities under this law must give the Secretary a written plan that explains how the program will be run and managed. If the State plans to change how the program operates or is run, it must send the change to the Secretary for approval. The plan must name the State agency that will distribute the commodities, explain how the State will move the food quickly, and set rules for which recipient agencies and which individuals or households can get food. The individual or household rules must require that they are needy and living in the area served when they apply. The State may include plans to work with emergency feeding groups on projects to harvest, process, package, or transport donated food received under section 7507(d). The plan must also say how emergency feeding groups or eligible agencies can give input on what commodities are needed, and the State can use an advisory board to get that input. The Secretary is to encourage each State to set up a State advisory board made up of public and private representatives involved in food distribution.
