Title 7 › Chapter 105— HASS AVOCADO PROMOTION, RESEARCH, AND INFORMATION › § 7801
Creates an industry-funded program to promote and grow U.S. markets for Hass avocados. Congress says Hass avocados are a popular, healthy food eaten by millions. Almost all commercially sold U.S.-grown Hass avocados come from California. They are shipped between states and imported, and even local sales affect interstate trade. Large amounts of avocados have been imported recently. Markets that existed on October 28, 2000, and new markets need to be kept and grown to protect the domestic industry. Authorizes a fair fee on Hass avocados sold by producers and importers in the United States to pay for promotion, research, industry and consumer information, and marketing and market research. The program must strengthen and expand domestic markets. It must not control how many avocados people grow or stop anyone from producing, handling, or importing Hass avocados.
