§93 Establishment of Official Naval Stores Standards

Summary

Make the turpentine types named in section 92(c), 92(e), and 92(f) and the rosin types already set by the Secretary of Agriculture the official standards for naval stores until changed. The Secretary can make standards for other naval stores after giving at least three months’ notice to the trade and offering hearings or chances to speak. Any new standard won’t take effect until three months after it is announced. The Secretary may change standards later, but must give at least six months’ notice, allow hearings, and wait six months after the change before it takes effect. Rosin grades, from highest to lowest, are labeled: X, WW, WG, N, M, K, I, H, G, F, E, D, and B, with the words “gum rosin” or “wood rosin” as needed. These are called the “Official Naval Stores Standards of the United States,” or simply “United States Standards,” and are the rules for grading and describing all naval stores in commerce.
