Last updated Apr 3, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Attorney General must act to cut the backlog of immigration benefit applications and try to eliminate it by 1 year after November 25, 2002. The Attorney General must also keep a backlog from coming back and improve the infrastructure needed to deliver immigration services. Congress may provide whatever money is needed to the Department of Justice for these actions. That funding is called the "Immigration Services and Infrastructure Improvements Account," stays available until spent, and cannot be used until the report required by section 1574(a) is sent to Congress.
