Once the new law-enforcement and intelligence database is running, the Attorney General and the Secretary of State must put the ID number of any lost or stolen U.S. or foreign passport into that database within 72 hours of being notified. The Attorney General should also try to add passport ID numbers for losses or thefts that happened before the database existed. Until the new system is fully ready, the Attorney General must enter the same passport data into an existing immigration‑screening system.
