Title 9 › Chapter 1— GENERAL PROVISIONS › § 1
Defines what counts as maritime transactions and what counts as commerce, and says some worker contracts are not covered. Maritime transactions are ship and shipping contracts and disputes (for example, charters, shipping documents, repairs, or collisions). Commerce means trade among states, with foreign nations, in territories, or involving D.C. It does not apply to employment contracts of sailors, railroad workers, or workers in foreign or interstate trade.
