Monthly school staff surveys — time burden

If you are school staff or work for state, local, or tribal education agencies, you may be asked to complete monthly School Pulse Panel surveys during the 2025-26 school year. NCES plans a 4,000-school initial sample and a 4,000-school reserve (from roughly 3,000 districts) with a goal of about 1,200 responding schools each month; the Department estimates 53,955 annual responses and 10,175 total annual burden hours.

SPP data will inform education policy

The School Pulse Panel will collect quick-turnaround data in 2025-26 on topics such as staffing, learning recovery, absenteeism, federal fund usage, facilities, transportation, technology, and principal and staff experiences. NCES states SPP findings have been used by Department of Education leadership, the White House Domestic Policy Council, the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, the CDC, Congress, and the media to inform data-driven policy decisions.
