Summary
The FMCSA is renewing special permissions for seven drivers with epilepsy or seizure disorders, letting them keep driving commercial trucks across state lines while on medication. These exemptions started on August 31, 2024, and last until August 31, 2026. This means qualified drivers can keep working without worrying about losing their licenses, keeping roads safe and jobs steady.

Seven Drivers Allowed To Keep Driving
FMCSA renewed exemptions for seven named interstate commercial drivers (Cody Baker (IN); David P. Crowe (VA); Michael Curtis Gibson (SC); Raymond Lobo (NJ); Alexis Roldan (IL); William Smith (NC); Yoon Song (CA)) so they may continue to operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce while taking anti‑seizure medication. The exemptions became effective August 31, 2024 and expire August 31, 2026.
Exemptions Valid Two Years; Revocable
Each exemption is valid for two years from the effective date and, for these renewals, runs from August 31, 2024 through August 31, 2026. FMCSA may revoke an exemption earlier if the person fails to follow its terms, the exemption results in a lower level of safety, or continuation would be inconsistent with 49 U.S.C. 31136(e) and 31315(b).
