Disaster-relief transport exceptions granted
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Tennessee Valley Authority were each authorized to transport hazardous materials in support of recovery and relief operations from and within Hurricane Helene disaster areas under conditions that may not meet the Hazardous Materials Regulations.
Multiple firms allowed expanded shipments
Multiple companies (for example, Applied Pressure Vessels, Illinois Tool Works, Austin Powder, Metalcraft, Veolia ES Technical Solutions, Mission Systems Orchard Park, Daniels Sharpsmart, and others listed) were granted modifications to their special permits to authorize additional hazardous materials, additional authorized packagings or cylinders, extended service life programs, new cylinder designs, or additional Division 2.2 gases.
Packaging allowed for prototype and damaged lithium batteries
Berlin Packaging LLC was authorized to manufacture, mark, sell, and use specially designed packaging for prototype and low-production lithium batteries, and for damaged, defective, or recalled lithium batteries (special permit 21690-N).
Emergency transport of damaged batteries in Otay Mesa
Call2Recycle, Inc. was authorized to transport damaged lithium-ion batteries in response to a thermal runaway incident that occurred at the Camino De La Fuente energy storage system in Otay Mesa, California.
Recycled-resin drums and IBCs approved
Greif, Inc. was authorized to manufacture, mark, sell, and use specified 1H1 and 1H2 plastic drums, 31HA1 intermediate bulk containers, 3H1 and 3H2 jerricans, and 6HA1 composite drums that have been manufactured using recycled resin.
Permit to ship explosives to Ukraine denied
An application from Day & Zimmermann Lone Star LLC requesting authorization to transport Class 1 explosives to Ukraine by cargo aircraft was denied (listed under Special Permits Data--Denied).
Permit to use DOT 2Q container denied
An application from Ecotec Manufacturing, Inc. to authorize transportation in commerce of certain Division 2.1 gases in a DOT 2Q container was denied (listed under Special Permits Data--Denied).
