Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Aquifer Protection and ACEC Designations

The Approved Resource Management Plan designates an Aquifer Protection Area of Critical Environmental Concern and retains other existing Areas of Critical Environmental Concern in Bears Ears. These protections apply within the planning area of about 1.36 million acres of federal land in San Juan County, Utah and guide how land and water are managed.

Portions Closed to Recreational Shooting

The Approved RMP closes portions of Bears Ears National Monument to recreational shooting. If you hunt or shoot on public lands in the monument area in San Juan County, Utah, those closures will limit where you can shoot starting on the effective dates (BLM: January 16, 2025; Forest Service: February 15, 2025).

BLM Rules Start Now; Forest Service in 30 Days

If you visit or use Bears Ears lands, new BLM rules are effective immediately on BLM-administered lands as of January 16, 2025. Rules for Forest Service‑administered portions of the monument become effective 30 days after this notice (February 15, 2025).
