Repatriation may begin Feb 18, 2025

Repatriation of two Native American human remains and one associated funerary object may occur on or after February 18, 2025. The items are held by the Bureau of Land Management Arizona State Office and written requests for repatriation must be sent to the BLM representative listed in the notice.

BLM identifies affiliated tribes

The Bureau of Land Management determined a cultural affiliation between the human remains/associated funerary object and the following groups: Ak-Chin Indian Community; Gila River Indian Community; Hopi Tribe; Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community; Tohono O'odham Nation; and Zuni Tribe. Those groups are identified in this notice as connected to the remains and object.

Who may request repatriation

Written requests for repatriation may be submitted by any one or more of the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations identified in this notice, or by any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not identified that shows by a preponderance of the evidence a cultural affiliation. Requests must be sent to the authorized BLM representative listed in the notice.

Competing and joint request rules

If competing requests for repatriation are received, the BLM must determine the most appropriate requestor before repatriation. Requests for joint repatriation are treated as a single request. Repatriation may occur on or after February 18, 2025.
