Another Hydro Project Sails Through to 2025 Extension

Published Date: 1/31/2025

Notice

Summary

Northern States Power Company gets the green light to keep running the Saxon Falls Hydroelectric Project through 2025 while waiting for a new license. This means no interruptions in power and no extra costs for now. If a new license isn’t ready by the end of 2025, the current permission automatically renews, so the project keeps humming along smoothly.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Annual License Keeps Project Running

The Saxon Falls Hydroelectric Project is authorized to operate under an annual license from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025. That means the project can keep producing power during 2025 without a new license being issued yet.

Automatic Renewal If No New License

If a new license or other disposition is not issued by December 31, 2025, the annual license automatically renews without further order or notice, so operation continues past that date unless the Commission orders otherwise. This prevents an immediate shutdown if licensing is delayed.

Prior License Continues If Section 15 Not Applicable

If the Saxon Falls Project is not subject to section 15 of the Federal Power Act, Northern States Power Company is authorized to continue operating under the terms and conditions of the prior license until a subsequent license is issued or other disposition occurs. That allows continued generation under the old license terms while the licensing process continues.
