Summary

This order affects all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and ends all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices and programs that give special treatment based on race or sex. End DEI Offices Across the Military

The order directs the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security (for the U.S. Coast Guard) to abolish every Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office and any vestiges (including sub-offices, programs, elements, or initiatives) that promote race- or sex-based preferences. It also states the policy that every element of the Armed Forces should operate free from any preference based on race or sex.

Ban on Teaching 'Divisive Concepts' and Gender Ideology

The order prohibits the Department of Defense and the Armed Forces from promoting, advancing, or inculcating specified theories — including 'divisive concepts,' race or sex stereotyping or scapegoating, claims that America's founding documents are racist or sexist, and 'gender ideology' — and bars hiring employees, contractors, or consultants to teach those theories.

Service Academy Curriculum and Leadership Review

The order requires the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to review the leadership, curriculum, and instructors of the U.S. Service Academies and other defense academic institutions to ensure alignment with the order, and it requires those institutions to teach that America and its founding documents 'remain the most powerful force for good in human history.'
