Notice

Summary

Constellation Energy is getting the green light to load seven special fuel containers at Peach Bottom’s storage site starting June 2025. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says this plan won’t harm the environment, even though some usual rules won’t be followed exactly. This means safer, smoother fuel storage without extra costs or delays for the community and the company.

Permission to Load Seven MPC Canisters

This allows Constellation Energy to load seven 89 multi-purpose canisters (MPC) at the Peach Bottom independent spent fuel storage installation (ISFSI) in a near-term campaign beginning in June 2025. The NRC issued an environmental assessment and is allowing the loading to proceed.

Exemption from CoC No. 1032 Conditions

The NRC granted an exemption so that certain terms, conditions, and specifications in Certificate of Compliance No. 1032, Amendment No. 1, Revision No. 1 are not met for this activity. The exemption specifically permits use of the HI-TRAC VW transfer cask during loading and transport operations for the near-term campaign.

NRC Finding of No Significant Impact

The NRC completed an environmental assessment and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the requested exemption covering the near-term loading campaign. The FONSI means the NRC determined the exemption will not have a significant effect on the environment.
