Swap Aluminum for Titanium: FAA's Helicopter Fire Fix

Published Date: 3/7/2025

Rule

Summary

If you own certain Airbus Helicopters, listen up! The FAA says you need to swap out a metal part in the engine compartment to stop fire risks. You’ll replace the old aluminum stiffener with a stronger titanium one—no more aluminum allowed—and you’ll want to do this soon to keep flying safe and sound.

Mandatory titanium firewall replacement

If you own or operate an Airbus Helicopters Model EC 155B, EC155B1, SA-365N, SA-365N1, AS-365N2, or AS 365 N3 helicopter, the FAA now requires you to replace the aluminum central firewall upper stiffener in the engine compartment with a titanium central firewall stiffener. The rule also prohibits installing an aluminum central firewall stiffener going forward; the required actions are specified in an EASA airworthiness directive that the FAA incorporated by reference.
