Flood maps may change your flood zone

You may see changes to Base Flood Elevations (BFE), base flood depth, Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zone designations, or regulatory floodways on your community’s Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM). These map updates might affect flood insurance rules and costs for property owners in the communities listed in the notice.

Communities must meet NFIP floodplain rules

Your community must adopt, or show evidence of having in effect, the floodplain management measures based on the FIRM and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report in order to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). That requirement ties map changes to local rules that affect building standards and flood insurance eligibility in participating communities.
