The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is launching a new survey to check how well Southeast catch share fishing programs are working. About 913 fishermen and businesses will spend a little time sharing their experiences to help improve fishery rules and protect the environment. This survey is part of a regular review required by law and won’t cost participants much time or money.

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
One-time voluntary survey for SE fishers
If you are a southeast catch share fisherman or a for-profit fishing business, NOAA is asking you to take a one-time voluntary survey. About 913 people will be asked to respond, the average response is 0.34 hours, and the total annual burden is 310 hours.
Data used for required fishery evaluations
NOAA will use the survey data for the required socioeconomic evaluation of Southeast catch share programs (required every 5 to 7 years under the Magnuson-Stevens Act) and to support development of amendments to fishery management plans and other legal analyses under statutes like NEPA and the Endangered Species Act.
