FAA Orders Fix for Helicopter Switches Tangling with Pilot Helmet Cords

Published Date: 4/4/2025

Rule

Summary

If you fly Airbus Helicopters AS332L1 or EC225LP models, listen up! The FAA found a safety issue where the hoist operator’s helmet cord might get caught on a switch, which could be dangerous. To fix this, certain parts must be replaced or changed soon, and some old parts can’t be used anymore—keeping everyone safer without breaking the bank.

Mandatory Hoist Switch Repairs for Two Airbus Models

If you operate or maintain Airbus Helicopters Model AS332L1 or EC225LP helicopters, the FAA requires replacing, or modifying and re-identifying, certain hoist shear toggle switch supports. The rule also prohibits installing certain hoist shear toggle switch supports; it addresses a risk that the hoist operator’s helmet cord could catch on the hoist cable cut toggle switch and cause an unsafe condition, and it incorporates a related EASA airworthiness directive by reference.
