Exemption Allows Flashing Brake Module
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration granted Casey's Services Company (USDOT No. 162449) an exemption to operate commercial motor vehicles equipped with an Intellistop module. The module pulses the required rear clearance, identification, and brake lamps from a lower intensity to a higher intensity 4 times in 2 seconds when brakes are applied, then returns the lights to steady while brakes remain engaged. FMCSA concluded the exemption would likely achieve a level of safety equivalent to or greater than the regulation.
