Flood map changes can alter insurance costs

FEMA is proposing changes to flood maps that could change Base Flood Elevations (BFE), Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries or zone designations, base flood depths, or regulatory floodways on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports for listed communities. If your property is in an affected community, those map changes could change flood zone status and may affect flood insurance rules and costs.

Communities must adopt floodplain measures to stay in NFIP

The preliminary FIRM and FIS reports are the basis for floodplain management measures that a community is required to adopt or show evidence of having in effect to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This means affected communities may need to change local rules or take actions to keep NFIP participation.
